Lobelia leaves contains alkaloids lobeline, lobelanine, lobinine, lobelanine etc. The drug is given in low doses in case of chronic bronchitis, whooping cough, cough, asthma, morning sickness etc. A poultice made from smashed leaves is applied on side of neck to treat an abscess.
